Biochem/physiol Actions

Chemokine-like factor is a protein encoded by the CKLF gene in humans. It is the first member of the CKLF-like MARVEL transmembrane domain containing member (CMTM) family and its expression is differentially regulated in myoblasts and myotubes. CKLF has a major role in the recruitment and activation of leucocytes that plays an important role in the pathogenesis of allergic diseases. It can induce proliferation and inhibit apoptosis of human vascular smooth muscle cell by down-regulating Bax and Caspase-3 and by the up-regulation of Bcl-2 expression. CKLF1 may play an important role in inflammation and regeneration of skeletal muscle. It may also play an important role in the development of atopic dermatitis, in the process of immune and inflammatory responses of atherogenesis. CKLF1 is a useful marker for regenerating muscle fibers in inflammatory myopathies.
