General description

N-Acetylgalactosamine is the acetyl derivative galactosamine which is a component of the polysaccharide glycosaminoglycan. N-Acetylgalactosamine is found in the urine of patients following proximal tubule damage due to increased activity of N-acetyl-β-hexosaminidase, an enzyme that cleaves glycoconjugates releasing N- acetylgalactosamine.
