Biochem/physiol Actions

Elongation factor 1-δ is a protein encoded by EEF1D gene in humans. It is a subunit of EF-1 (strongly conserved in its C-terminal domain in humans) that regulates the elongation step of mRNA translation. The homology between the N-terminal domains of EF-1 δ proteins is low and is limited to the leucine zipper motif. EEF1D plays a key role in mediating BMP-6-induced transcriptional activation of E-cadherin in breast cancer cells. It is correlated with oncogenic transformation. EF-1 δ mRNA expression is significantly higher in cancerous than noncancerous oesophageal tissues. Over expression of EF-1 δ mRNA is related with lymph node metastases, advanced disease stages, poorer prognosis for patients with oesophageal carcinoma and malignant transformation of 16HBE cells induced by CdC12.
