Gene Information

human ... HSD17B10(3028)

General description

The gene HSD17B10 (hydroxysteroid (17-β) dehydrogenase 10) encodes 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase type II, a member of the short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase superfamily.

Specificity

By immunoblotting, the antibody detects native human ERAB. It does not react with mouse or rat.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 100-116 of human ERAB protein.

Application

Anti-ERAB antibody produced in rabbit is suitable for immunohistochemistry at a working concentration of 1-2μg/mL using human cerebellum tissue with DAB detection and for immunoblotting at 1-3μg/mL using human neuroblastoma SK-N-SH cells with chemiluminescence detection.

Biochem/physiol Actions

The gene product is a subunit of mitochondrial ribonuclease P and plays a pivotal role in in mitochondrial tRNA maturation. It catalyzes the oxidation of a wide variety of fatty acids and steroids. The gene is linked to the neuronal dysfunction associated with Alzheimer disease (AD).

Physical form

Solution in 0.05 M sodium phosphate buffer, pH 7.5, containing 0.2% gelatin and 0.1% sodium azide

Amyloid-beta is a neurotoxic peptide which is implicated in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. It binds an intracellular polypeptide known as ERAB, thought to be a hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase enzyme, which is expressed in normal tissues, but is overexpressed in neurons

17beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases (17beta-HSDs) catalyse the conversion of 17beta-OH (-hydroxy)/17-oxo groups of steroids, and are essential in mammalian hormone physiology. At present, eleven 17beta-HSD isoforms have been defined in mammals, with different tissue-expression and substrate-conversion patterns. We analysed 17beta-HSD type 10

tRNAs are synthesized as immature precursors, and on their way to functional maturity, extra nucleotides at their 5' ends are removed by an endonuclease called RNase P. All RNase P enzymes characterized so far are composed of an RNA plus
