Gene Information

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to an internal sequence of human β-Defensin 3.

Application

Anti-β-Defensin 3 antibody produced in rabbit is suitable for immunoblotting at a working dilution of 1:500 to 1:1000 and for immunohistochemistry at 1:2 dilution. It was used for a quantitative immunohistochemical study of HBD-3 on skin lesions from patients having Kaposi′s sarcoma in a study. It was used as a primary antibody for western blot analysis of oral mucosa and extraoral skin samples to study the quantitative comparison of the expression of antimicrobial peptides.
Applications in which this antibody has been used successfully, and the associated peer-reviewed papers, are given below.

Biochem/physiol Actions

hBD-3 m-RNA expression is induced by tumor necrosis factor a and contact with bacteria. Therefore, it might be important in the innate epithelial defense of infections by various microorganisms seen in skin and lung, such as cystic fibrosis.

Target description

β-Defensin 3 encodes defensin, beta 103B, which has broad spectrum antimicrobial activity and may play an important role in innate epithelial defense.

Physical form

solution in phosphate buffered saline, containing 0.02% sodium azide.
