Cell Line Origin

Human Caucasian histiocytic lymphoma

Cell Line Description

The cell line CD59(+) was derived from the lymphoma cell line U937 (Sigma Catalogue number. 85011440) by a single limited dilution step. Although the cells express CD59, mAb directed against CD59 did not enhance the killing of this cell line. Together with results from Western blot analysis these results indicate that CD59(+) cells express a dysfunctional and structurally abnormal form of CD59.

Application

937 (CD59+) has been used to study the effect of synthetic low-density lipoprotein (sLDL) on cell proliferation.[1]

Culture Medium

RPMI 1640 + 4mM Glutamine + 2mM Sodium Pyruvate (NaP) + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculture Routine

Maintain cultures between 2-9 x 100,000 cells/ml; 5% CO2; 37°C.

Other Notes

Cultures from HPA Culture Collections and supplied by Sigma are for research purposes only. Enquiries regarding the commercial use of a cell line are referred to the depositor of the cell line. Some cell lines have additional special release conditions such as the requirement for a material transfer agreement to be completed by the potential recipient prior to the supply of the cell line. Please view the Terms & Conditions of Supply for more information.
