Cell Line Origin

Carp leukocyte

Cell Line Description

The cell line CLC (Carp Leukocyte Culture) was established from peripheral blood mononuclear cells of a normal 2 year old female common carp, Cyprinus carpio. They possess phagocytic activity and are reported to be stimulated by TNF, gamma-interferon and LPS therefore resembling characteristic features of monocytes / macrophages. CLC replicate fish viruses e.g. IPNV, PFR, SVCV and VHSV.

Application

Immunological research, fish virology, fish cell physiology.

Culture Medium

EMEM (EBSS) or TC-199 + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculture Routine

Spilt confluent cultures 1:3 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 25-28°C. Fish cell lines detach easily during transit if the culture is too young. After resuscitation split cells 1:3 and culture for at least one week with 1-2 media changes before shipping.
