Cell Line Origin

Boar Miniature male ileum, SV40 transformed

Cell Line Description

Epitheloid cell line derived from the ileum of an adult histocompatible miniature male boar. Transformed by SV40 plasmid pSV3-neo. Electron microscopy analysis shows evidence of microvilli and desmosomes connecting cells. The cells were found to co-express cytokeratin 18 specific of simple luminal epithelial cells and vimentin associated with a mesenchymal origin. Susceptible to Transmissible Gastro-enteritis (TG) virus.

Application

Studies of epithelial cell differentiation.

Culture Medium

DMEM + 4mM Glutamine + 0.024IU/ml Insulin + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C.
