Derived from a biopsy of a 4 year old mare. These cells have a finite lifespan of a total of 40 passages. Susceptible to herpes simplex, reovirus type III, vaccinia and vesicular stomatitis viruses. Not susceptible to human adenovirus type V, coxsackie A9 and B5 and polio type II. This cell line is also known as NBL-6.
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:2 to 1:3 i.e. seeding at 4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C. Finite lifespan of approximately 40 passages.
