Derived from a cotton-top tamarin (Saguinus oedipus). Releases high titres of transforming Epstein Bar virus (EBV). Thus it provides a source of EBV to establish continuous lymphocytic lines from human donors. The cells should be handled under laboratory containment level 2.
In some instances the cell line B95-8 has been described as derived from ′marmoset′; however, this is not correct. B95-8 was derived from a cotton-top tamarin (Saguinas oedipus); this has been confirmed by DNA profiling.
Maintain cultures between 3-9x100,000 cells/ml. May need to use 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C. It is recommended that this cell line be frozen at no less than 8x1000,000 cells per ampoule.
Other Notes
Cultures from HPA Culture Collections and supplied by Sigma are for research purposes only. Enquiries regarding the commercial use of a cell line are referred to the depositor of the cell line. Some cell lines have additional special release conditions such as the requirement for a material transfer agreement to be completed by the potential recipient prior to the supply of the cell line. Please view the Terms & Conditions of Supply for more information.
