Cell Line Origin

Rat transplantable mesothelioma asbestos, primary tumour

Cell Line Description

The Me-series of esotheliomas were generated by an intrapleural inoculation of UICC crocidolite to induce primary mesotheliomas in syngenic PVG/c Norweigan Hooded rats. Solid fragments of the tumours were transplanted and maintained by s.c. serial passage. Reference cultures designated CARM-lines (CARM-L12 TG3 11120833 and CARM-L1 TG3 11120835) were derived from Me9-TG3 (Sigma product number 11120841) by cloning the cells three times in soft agar. Each line was selected on the basis of their epithelial or fibroblastic phenotype. The cell lines are metastatic in a syngeneic host.
