Cell Line Origin

Human embryonal carcinoma

Cell Line Description

A human embryonal carcinoma cell line established from a primary testicular tumour of a 22 year-old patient. By short tandem repeat (STR)-PCR analysis the Y chromosome could not be detected in this cell line when tested at ECACC. It is a known phenomenon that due to the increased genetic instability of cancer cell lines the Y chromosome can be rearranged or lost resulting in lack of detection.

DNA Profile

STR-PCR Data:

Amelogenin: X
CSF1PO: 11
D13S317: 8,9
D16S539: 11,14

Culture Medium

DMEM (High Glucose) + 2 mM Glutamine + 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). No sodium pyruvate.

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:5 i.e. seeding at >6x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 10% CO2; 37°C. Cells need to be maintained at a high cell density.
