PCMT1 codes for protein-L-isoaspartate (D-aspartate) O-methyltransferase. This enzyme modulates protein repair by converting D-aspartyl and L-isoaspartyl residues to their L-apsartyl forms. PCMT1 polymorphism has been linked to the decerased risk of spina bifida. Rabbit Anti-PCMT1 antibody recognizes zebrafish, canine, pig, chicken, human, mouse, rat, and bovine PCMT1.
Immunogen
Synthetic peptide directed towards the middle region of human PCMT1
Application
Rabbit Anti-PCMT1 antibody is suitable for western blot applications at a concentration of 2.5 μg/ml.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Three classes of protein carboxyl methyltransferases, distinguished by their methyl-acceptor substrate specificity, have been found in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. The type II enzyme catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosyl-L-methionine to the free carboxyl groups of D-aspartyl and L-isoaspartyl residues. These methyl-accepting residues result from the spontaneous deamidation, isomerization, and racemization of normal L-aspartyl and L-asparaginyl residues and represent sites of covalent damage to aging proteins PCMT1 (EC 2.1.1.77) is a protein repair enzyme that initiates the conversion of abnormal D-aspartyl and L-isoaspartyl residues to the normal L-aspartyl form.Three classes of protein carboxyl methyltransferases, distinguished by their methyl-acceptor substrate specificity, have been found in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Folate binding protein 1 (Folr1) knockout mice with low maternal folate concentrations have been shown to be excellent animal models for human folate-responsive neural tube defects (NTDs). Previous studies using the Folr1 knockout mice revealed that maternal folate supplementation up-regulates
