Cell Line Origin

Muntjac skin

Cell Line Description

Derived from a skin biopsy of an adult male muntjac. The cells have a diploid chromosome number of 7 in the male and 6 in the female, amongst the lowest determined for a mammalian species. Recent tests indicate the cell line is positive for BVDV, both for antigen and infectious virus. Susceptible to vesicular stomatitis (Indiana strain), herpes simplex and vaccinia viruses.

Culture Medium

Ham′s F10 + 2mM Glutamine + 20% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:2 to 1:4 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C.
