General description

Periodic acid (H5IO6) is a colorless crystalline solid. It is widely employed as an oxidant and is weakly acidic in nature. It can be synthesized from iodic(V) acid.[1]

Application

Periodic acid may be used in the synthesis of diiodine heptoxide (I2O7).[2] It may be used in the Periodic acid Schiff staining procedures.[3]
