General description

Chromium(III) potassium sulfate dodecahydrate (Potassium chromium(III) sulfate dodecahydrate, Chrome alum) is a violet colored solid. It has been synthesized by reacting sulfur dioxide with potassium dichromate (dissolved in sulfuric acid) at -38°C. It is widely used chemical in dyeing and textile industry.[1]

Application

Chromium(III) potassium sulfate dodecahydrate (KCr(SO4)2.12H2O) has been used for coating the slides for microscopic studies on Periplaneta americana.[2][3] It may be used in the preparation of quasi-monodisperse spherical core-shell particles of Cr/α-Cr2O3.[4]

Tumor promoters such as phorbol esters, teleocidin and okadaic acid increase the numbers of multilayered, transformed foci produced by BPV DNA-transfected C3H/10T1/2 cells. We questioned whether arsenic and chromium, which are known human carcinogens also enhance transformation of BPV DNA-transfected
