General description

This proficiency testing sample is produced in accordance with ISO/IEC 17043:2010. All information regarding the use of this material can be found in the reporting packet supplied for each sample.

Preparation Note

This concentrate sample is formulated for the determination of TPH in water by GC-FID/PID, IR or gravimetric methods.
TPH consists of a light petroleum hydrocarbon (>12 to <35).
The solvent is Freon 113. This solvent has the proper boiling point and IR spectra as to not interfere with the methods.
Handle the concentrate in a properly ventilated hood.

Sample preparation
Transfer exactly 1 mL of concentrate directly to the separatory funnel.
Add 1 L of reagent grade DI water to the separatory funnel.
Considered this as your sample for test.
Proceed with analysis.
TPH is reported in mg/L. Assume sample volume is 1-Liter for calculation purposes.

Other Notes

Proficiency testing samples are presented as single blind. No values for the samples are released unti the testing period concludes. Values of analytes vary lot to lot.
