For a Land Search training, the capsule may be wrapped in a sterile gauze pad and place in a cage for training purposes. For Water Search training, the capsule may be placed directly in a cage. If rapid dispersal is experienced or if water is warm, the capsule may be wrapped in sterile gauze prior to placing in the cage. Nylon fishing line may be used to move the cage to varying depths or locations.
This product may be used as a stand-alone source or to supplement other training methods. The release of scent from a capsule solves the problem of concealing bubbles from a diver or scent generator. Water will penetrate the capsule in 10 minutes or less. The material has been tested for use at a range of 32 degrees Fahrenheit to approximately 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Testing sites included slow to moderately running streams and rivers, ponds, lakes, and tidal salt water. Test depths ranged from 1 to 60 feet. The scent disperses naturally in the water and behaves similarly to real human scent. Handlers should observe standard canine training protocols while using this product. Placing the scent at different depths and in varying water conditions will help a dog generalize the search behavior effectively. It is recommended that dogs be trained under a variety of environmental conditions to ensure reliability in real-world search scenarios. Wind, current, and temperature variations will affect scent movement, and handlers must adjust their search patterns accordingly.
