General description

N-heptane has been the area of interest in many experimental investigations, related to elucidating the ignition characteristics of high molecular weight aliphatic fuels.[1]

Application

n-heptane-air mixtures may be used in investigating a high-pressure shock tube to determine self-ignition characteristics under conditions that are relevant to piston engines combustion.[2] Binary mistures of n-alkanols C1 to C6, C8 and C10 with n-heptane at 298.15 K may be used for the measurement of ultrasonic speeds and isentropic compressibilities.[3]
