General description

Light Green SF Yellowish (LGSF) is an acidic triphenylmethane (TPM) dye with auxochromic and bathochromic groups, belonging to the class of polymethine dyes. It is frequently utilized as a histology stain for collagen. Commercial applications of the dye include its usage in cosmetics and personal care products. LGSF is also a permitted food colorant. Various studies indicate the toxicity of the stain and its adverse effects on the environment.[1][2]

Application

Light Green SF Yellowish may be used as a reference dye:

  • For the determination of fluoride in drinking water by spectrophotometric method.[3]
  • To determine its presence in foodstuff by high-performance liquid chromatography–diode array detection–ion trap time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry.[4]

Caution

Hygroscopic.
