General description

BDE No 209 is one of the congeners of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) which is extensively used in a number of consumer goods.

application

BDE No 209 may be used as a reference standard for the determination of BDE No 209 in:
  • House dust samples by liquid chromatography with negative-ion atmospheric pressure photoionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC/NI-APPI/MS/MS).
  • Sediment samples by selective pressurized liquid extraction (SPLE) followed by analysis using gas chromatography (GC) combined with negative chemical ionization (NCI)−MS in selective ion monitoring (SIM) mode.
  • Sewage sludge by GC-SIM with low resolution MS and in blood, muscle as well as liver samples of European starlings (Sturnus vulgaris) by GC-MS.

There have been serious concerns about polybromodiphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in the environment because of their global distribution and bioaccumulation. Owing to strong hydrophobicity of PBDEs, the regular photocatalytic system, in which the substrate is solvated in the bulk solution, is
