General description

Lead acetate is a white crystalline solid, that is prepared by dissolving lead (II) oxide or lead (II) carbonate in concentrate d acetic acid. It is very soluble in water and its solution is often used to prepare other compounds. A trihydrate known as the “sugar of lead” because of its sweet taste, is the most common commercial form of lead (II) acetate, and can be prepared by dissolving lead (II) oxide in hot dilute acetic acid.[1] It is generally used for dyeing and cloth printing, in the production of other lead compounds and of lead acetate papers.[2]
