General description

2-Mercaptopropionic acid is a primary metabolite of tiopronin, a drug prescribed for the treatment of cystinuria and, rheumatoid arthritis.[1]

application

2-Mercaptopropionic acid may be used as an analytical standard for the quantification of the analyte in biological fluids[1][2][3] by chromatography techniques. It may also be used as an internal standard for the thiol drug derivatization before high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) determination in pharmaceutical formulations by HPLC.[4]
