Arnd′s alloy is mostly used as a reducing agent.

Application

It was used in isotopic analyses for nitrogen where HNO3 was reduced to NH3, in a study to determine the physical properties of isotopic forms of inorganic acid-water azeotropes.

Other Notes

Alloy (60% Cu, 40% Mg) for the reduction of nitrites and nitrates in weakly acidic or neutral solution for analysis (alternative to Devarda alloy)
