A biologically standardised enzymatic digest of fresh swine liver followed by a careful desiccation process to maintain its fundamental characteristics. For use as a source of nutrients in microbiological culture media. The digest is water soluble and compatible with other culture media ingredients. Being derived from liver this product contains relatively high levels of iron. Liver peptone is employed in culture media for Trichomonas and other fastidious protozoa, and for some pathogen and saprofitic fungi, microplasms and anaerobic bacteria.
Culture media provides a habitat with suitable nutrients, energy sources, and certain environmental conditions for the growth of microorganisms. The components of the culture media range from simple sugars to peptones, salts, antibiotics, and complex indicators.
