DLL3, also known as Delta like ligand 3, is a transmembrane Delta-like protein principally found in the Golgi apparatus and endosomes where it promotes Notch family receptor degradation to inhibit primary neurogenesis. DLL3 is one of five DSL proteins that bind to the Notch receptor. Notch signaling pathways play key roles in cell-fate determination and differentiation in many tissues during embryonic and postnatal development. Notch ligands family members are characterized by a DSL domain, EGF repeats, and a transmembrane domain. Mutations in the DLL3 gene causes autosomal recessive spondylocostal dysostosis.
