General description

Ubiquilin-2, also known as Chap1, DSK2 homolog, Protein linking IAP with cytoskeleton 2 (PLIC-2 or hPLIC-2), Ubiquitin-like product Chap1/Dsk2, and encoded by the gene UBQLN2/N4BP4/PLIC2, is a protein that appears to modulate the half-life of proteins destined to be degraded by the proteasome. Ubiquilin 2 binds UBE3A and BTRC ubquitin ligases and interacts with the 19S proteasome subunit to mediate its activity. Ubiquilin 2 is localized to the cytoplasm and nucleus, and colocalizes with proteasome. Ubiquilin 2 is expressed in mitotic cells very strongly; expression is low in non-dividing cells. Defects in Ubiquilin 2 may be associated with ALS form 15 a neurodegenerative disorder affecting upper motor neurons in the brain and lower motor neurons in the brain stem and spinal cord, resulting in fatal paralysis.

p62/Sequestosome 1 (p62) is a stress-induced protein that is involved in several different intracellular pathways, including regulation of aspects of protein degradation. p62 levels are elevated in several types of cataracts. We investigated whether levels of p62 and its phosphorylation

Activation of NF-κB transcription factors is critical for innate immune cells to induce inflammation and fight against microbial pathogens. On the other hand, the excessive and prolonged activation of NF-κB causes massive inflammatory damage to the host, suggesting that regulatory
