General description
Intact protein and SDS-PAGE bands react with monoclonal antibodies to vitronectin, bind to heparin, and promote cell adhesion.
M.W. 65,000 and 75,000.
Native vitronectin purified from human plasma. Extracellular matrix protein that promotes cell adhesion. Exists as a mixture of 75 kDa and 65 kDa polypeptides. Biochemically and immunologically distinct from fibronectin. Binds to cells through the RGD sequence in its cell-binding domain.

Preparation Note
Equilibrate vial to room temperature prior to reconstitution. Swirl gently to dissolve.
Prepared from plasma of individuals that have been shown by certified tests to be negative for HBsAg and for antibodies to HIV and HCV.
Reconstitution
Following reconstitution, aliquot and freeze (-20°C). Stock solutions are stable for up to 1 month at -20°C.

Monoclonal antibodies were prepared against a cell attachment-promoting protein, serum spreading factor, which had been partially purified from human serum by chromatography on glass bead columns. The antibodies selected were those that reacted with polypeptides that had cell attachment-promoting activity
