General description

Caffeine is a naturally occurring compound that is reported to be found in about 60 plant species. It is consumed in different forms such as coffee, tea, cacao powder, and other food and beverages. It is an ergogenic aid because of its ability to enhance the mental and physical performance of athletes during training and competitions. It has been shown to exhibit structural similarities to adenosine and therefore acts by inhibiting the adenosine receptors located on the cell membranes and blocking their activity. It also raises the level of adrenaline in the body which leads to the ergogenic action.

Application

Caffeine may be used as a pharmaceutical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in pharmaceutical formulations by chromatography techniques.
These Secondary Standards are qualified as Certified Reference Materials. These are suitable for use in several analytical applications including but not limited to pharma release testing, pharma method development for qualitative and quantitative analyses, food and beverage quality control testing, and other calibration requirements.
