General description

Ceramide is a sphingolipid metabolite. The ceramides differ in their acyl chain length.[1]

Application

C16 PEG750 Ceramide might be used as a control to test for nonspecific interactions during titrations of DNA-nanotube complexes with polyethylene glycol (PEG)-conjugated lipids.[2] It is also suitable for use in nanoliposomal formulation.[3][4]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Therapeutic drugs enclosed in poly-ethylene glycol (PEG) conjugated ceramide serves as liposomal carriers, ensuring a longer circulation period. It exhibits a neutral surface electrostatic charge which prevents the leakage of positively charged encapsulated drug molecule.[5]
