General description

C18-02:0 PC, also known as 1-O-octadecyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (C18∶0-PAF), is a platelet-activating factor lipid. It belongs to a class of natural PAFs and is produced in basophil leucocytes, macrophages, polymorphonuclear neutrophils and monocytes and platelets.[1]

Application

C18-02:0 PC or 1-O-octadecyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine is suitable as a substrate for enzymatic lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) activity assay.[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

C18-02:0 PC or 1-O-octadecyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (C18-PAF), a platelet-activating factor (PAF) facilitates platelet aggregation and secretion. It also plays a key role in inflammation and anaphylaxis.[1] C18-PAF exhibits neurotoxic effects by initiating caspase-independent death in PAF receptor-deficient neurons.
