General description

Phytosphingosine phosphocholine is a sphingolipid containing phytosphingosine conjugated with phosphocholine. Phytosphingosine is a sphingoid and it is majorly found in plants, fungi and epidermis of mammals.[1][2] Phytosphingosine contains an additional hydroxyl group at C-4, which is localized to the small intestine and and skin.[3] It is an important long chain base (LCB) in yeast.[3] Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is a glycerophospholipid, that constitutes 40-50% of the total phospholipid content in the cell membrane.[4][5] It is an abundant phospholipid in all mammalian cells and cellular organelles.[4]
