General description

18:0 (9,10dibromo) PC (1,2-di-(9,10-dibromo)stearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) is a zwitterionic[1] and brominated phospholipid.[2]

Application

18:0 (9,10dibromo) PC (1,2-di-(9,10-dibromo)stearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) may be used:
  • in the preparation of liposomes/small unilamellar vesicles (SUVs)[2]
  • in the preparation of large unilamellar vesicles (LUVs) to facilitate vesicles sedimentation[1]
  • as a component in liposomes[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) serves as a surfactant to prevent the penetrance of bacteria.[4] Brominated lipids are capable of recognizing the lipid binding sites on the surface of the reaction center from Rhodobacter sphaeroides.[5]
