General description

Platelet-activating factor (PAF; 1-O-alkyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine), an endogenous phospholipid is synthesized by several cells.[1] PAF is a phosphatidylcholine derivative.[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Platelet-activating factor (PAF; 1-O-alkyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) is linked with arterial thrombosis, endotoxic shock, acute inflammation and acute allergic disease. It acts as a mediator of pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis and Crohn′s disease in human colon.[1] It also participates in platelet activation and inflammation.[2]
