General description

Lyso-platelet activating factor (lyso-PAF) is the alkyl homolog of lysophosphatidylcholine.[1]

Application

Lyso PAF (from Heart PC) is suitable for use as acyl acceptors in the determination of lysophosphatidic acid acyltransferase (LPAAT) activity.[2] It is also suitable for use in mass spectroscopic comparison for identifying the presence of tiny amounts of alkylacylphosphatidylcholine (OxPAF) in oxidized low density lipoprotein (OxLDL).[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Lyso-platelet activating factor (lyso-PAF) can stimulate inflammation in a murine model of pleurisy.[1] It acts as a stable metabolite and a precursor of PAF. The turnover of lyso-PAF to PAF is expected to induce continued inflammation in target organs or tissues.[4]

Lysophosphatidic acid (1-acyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphate (LPA)) is a phospholipid with diverse biological activities. The mediator serves as an intermediate in membrane phospholipid metabolism but is also produced in acute settings by activated platelets. LPA is converted to phosphatidic acid, itself a lipid
