General description

Phosphatidylethanolamine is an aminophospholipid, which is found in eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells.[1] Phosphatidylethanolamine is one of the most abundant glycerophospholipids in the biological membranes,[2] found in nervous tissue.[3]

Application

16:0 DNP PE has been used as a standard to prepare total lipid extracts from the cell isolates- of Emiliania huxleyi.[4]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylethanolamine forms pure lipid structures.[5] It functions as a precursor for the synthesis of various protein modifications.[2] Phosphatidylethanolamine regulates membrane fluidity in eukaryotic cells.[6] It plays a vital role in autophagy, cell division and protein folding. Phosphatidylethanolamine acts as an intermediate for the synthesis of glycerophospholipid classes.[2]
