General description
The phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) is a zwitterionic phospholipid. Its headgroup is provided with a phosphate, that is negatively charged and a free amine, that is positively charged. E is one of the widely distributed glycerophospholipid in eukaryotic cells.
Application
TopFluor™ Lyso PE may be used in fluorescent substrate binding and competitive binding assays.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) helps to activate factor (F)X and PT, thereby stimulating thrombosis. It serves as an anticoagulant. PE is essential for the surface expression of γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptors (GABAARs) in cultured neurons.
