General description
Phosphatidylserine (PS) belongs to the class of glycerophospholipids and is generally found in the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane and in endocytic membranes. Dansyl ((dimethyl amino)naphthalene-1-sulfonYL)) group produces blue or blue-green fluorescent adduct and is used in labeling techniques for studying protein folding and dynamics.(5)
Application
18:1 Dansyl PS may be used for preparation of liposomes for sedimentation assays, visualising and other fluorometric analysis like FRET.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Phosphatidylserine (PS) plays a vital role in cell cycle signaling and engulfing apoptotic cells. It is also known to activate the blood coagulation process acting as a pro-coagulant surface.

This article addresses the role of platelet membrane phosphatidylserine (PS) in regulating the production of thrombin, the central regulatory molecule of blood coagulation. PS is normally located on the cytoplasmic face of the resting platelet membrane but appears on the

Phosphatidylserine (PS) is the most abundant negatively charged phospholipid in eukaryotic membranes. PS directs the binding of proteins that bear C2 or gamma-carboxyglutamic domains and contributes to the electrostatic association of polycationic ligands with cellular membranes. Rather than being evenly
