General description

Phosphatidylglycerol (PG) is an anionic phospholipid[1], constituting 20−25% in E. coli membranes.[2] It synthesized by phosphatidic acid.[3] Nitrobenzoxadiazole phosphoglycerol (NBD PG) is a fluorescently labeled phospholipid with NBD attached to the fatty acid chain of the phosphatidylglycerol.[2]

Application

18:1-12:0 NBD PG or 1-oleoyl-2-{12-[(7-nitro-2-1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-yl)amino]dodecanoyl}-sn-glycero-3-[phospho-rac-(1-glycerol)] (ammonium salt) has been used in the lipid transfection experiment for the analysis of tissue-specific changes in lipid utilization.[4]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylglycerol is involved in the biosynthesis of cardiolipin.[1] It also contributes to the photosynthetic activity by maintaining the structural photosynthetic apparatus.[3]
