General description

Nitrobenzoxadiazole phosphoethanolamine (NBD PE) is a fluorescent probe with NBD covalently attached to the headgroup of phosphatidylethanolamine.[1] It localized at the membrane interface[2] and mostly present in brain.[3] Phosphoethanolamine is the second most abundant, metabolically related aminophospholipid.[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphoethanolamine of cardiac myocytes is useful in the prevention of cell damage after ischemia. Nitrobenzoxadiazole phosphoethanolamine (NBD PE) is used to monitor the Red edge excitation shift (REES) effects due to its unique motional and dielectric properties.[2]
