General description

18:1 Ethylene glycol (1-2-dioleoyl ethylene glycol) is a nonpolar lipid. The oleic acid esters are generally synthesized with polyols like ethylene glycol. 18:1 Ethylene glycol consists of two oleic acid esterified to ethylene glycol.

Application

18:1 Ethylene glycol (1-2-dioleoyl ethylene glycol) may be used as a phosphatidic acid synthesis inhibitor in rabbit kidney epithelial cells. It may also be used as an internal standard in normal-phase ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectroscopy (NP-UHPLC/APCI-MS) for human plasma lipidomic analysis.

Biochem/physiol Actions

18:1 Ethylene glycol or dioleoyl ethylene glycol (DOEG) is an inhibitor of protein kinase C.

Diacylglycerol-kinase (DAG-kinase) is an enzyme that phosphorylates diacylglycerol (DAG) to phosphatidic acid (PA), which serves as a precursor to phosphoglycerides involved in cell signaling or as cell membrane structural components. DAG-kinase can be inhibited by diacylethylene glycols (DAEG). We hypothesize
