General description

5-Nitro-1-pentene is a nitro alkene. It undergoes conjugate addition to 3-buten-2-one by C-C bond formation.[1] Its enthalpy of vaporization at boiling point has been determined.[2]

Application

5-Nitro-1-pentene was used as a substrate in the microwave assisted cross metathesis reaction with allyl trimethylsilane (allylTMS).[3]
It may be used as a precursor for the preparation of allylrethrone[1] and as a starting material in the synthesis of 3-(3′-butenyl)-5-acetyl-2-isoxazoline.[4]
