General description

2-(4-Biphenylyl)-2-propanol on oxidation by graphite oxide (effcient oxidizing agent) yields 4-(prop-1-en-2-yl)-1,1′-biphenyl[1]. It is converted into corresponding alkyl thiocyanate by using 2-chloro-1-methylpyridinium iodide (Mukaiyama reagent) in acetonitrile[2].
