Gene Information

human ... EGR2(1959)

General description

Early growth response 2 (EGR2) is a zinc finger transcription factor and a member of the EGR family. Structurally, it comprises activation domain(A), DNA binding domain (DBD) zinc finger domain, basic domain (BD) and broadly neutralizing antibody (BNab) interaction domain(R1). The EGR2 gene is mapped to human chromosome 10q21.3.

Immunogen

EGR2 (NP_000390.2, 1 a.a. ~ 476 a.a) full-length human protein.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Early growth response 2 (EGR2) is essential for peripheral nerve myelination and T cell anergy. It is also needed for the formation of gap junction beta 1 (GJB1) and periaxin along with other myelin proteins. Mutations in the EGR2 gene are implicated in peripheral neuropathies namely Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1 (CMT1), congenital hypomyelinating neuropathy (CHN), and Dejerine-Sottas neuropathy (DSN/CMT). EGR2 upregulation may regulate inflammatory cytokines during recovery from Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS).

EGR2 is a zinc finger transcription factor that regulates myelination in the peripheral nervous system and T cell anergy. The transcriptional activity of EGR2 is known to be regulated by its co-activators and/or co-repressors. Although the activity of transcription factors
