General description
C24 Ceramide (d18:1/24:0) is a synthetic ceramide containing sphingosine with lignoceric acid. Ceramide synthase 2 is responsible for the synthesis of C24 ceramide. C24 Ceramide-d7 (d18:1-d7/24:0) is a deuterated derivative of C24 Ceramide (d18:1/24:0).
Application
C24 Ceramide-d7 (d18:1-d7/24:0) has been used as a standard in liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS) for quantitative analysis of C24 ceramide in skeletal muscle.
Biochem/physiol Actions
C24 Ceramide plays a vital role in inducing cell death. Altered levels of C24 ceramide might be a potential indication in tumor monitoring. Determining the levels of the ceramides (Cer) d18:1/16:0, Cer d18:1/18:0, Cer d18:1/24:0, and Cer d18:1/24:1 and ratios in human plasma helps to predict fatal outcome of coronary artery disease. The stable isotope form of C24 Ceramide (d18:1/24:0) is convenient for a newly described validated liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry methodology for their clinical-scaled measurement.

L-ascorbic acid alkyl esters (ASCn) are lipophilic forms of vitamin C, which act as skin permeation enhancers. We investigated the physical changes induced by incorporating ASCn into stratum corneum (SC) lipid membranes and correlated this with the mechanism proposed in

Insulin sensitivity (as determined by a hyperinsulinaemic-euglyceamic clamp) decreased 15% after reduced activity. Despite not fully returning to baseline physical activity levels, insulin sensitivity unexpectedly, rebounded above that recorded before 2 weeks of reduced physical activity by 14% after the recovery

Monitoring the levels of the ceramides (Cer) d18:1/16:0, Cer d18:1/18:0, Cer d18:1/24:0, and Cer d18:1/24:1 and ratios thereof in human plasma empowers the prediction of fatal outcome of coronary artery disease (CAD). We describe a validated liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry

The liver plays a central role in the glucose and lipid metabolism. Studies performed on animal models have shown an important role of lipid accumulation in the induction of insulin resistance. We sought to explain whether in obese humans, the

Ceramides are the major lipid constituent of lamellar sheets present in the intercellular spaces of the stratum corneum. These lamellar sheets are thought to provide the barrier property of the epidermis. It is generally accepted that the intercellular lipid domain
