General description

Graphite is an allotrope of carbon. Graphite is a nonmetallic showing high electrical conductivity. Synthetic graphite can be prepared by heating carbonaceous precursor in an inert atmosphere.
Graphite is the most stable allotrope of carbon under standard conditions. The only nonmetallic conductor of electricity. Graphite powder is used as an additive to alter the magnetorheology and electrical conductivity of magnetorheological elastomers (MREs).[1][2]

Application

Graphite powder has been used:
  • in the synthesis of single sheet graphene nanoflakes[3]
  • in the preparation of graphite based magnetorheological elastomers[4]
  • free standing film like cantilever sensor in piezoelectric device[5]
  • to study its use as a catalyst for wet peroxide oxidation.[6]

Oxidation of carbon dust was studied.
Synthesis of graphite based MR elastomers have been reported.[2] It may be used in the preparation of graphite oxide[7] and anode in lithium ion battery.[8]

Questions

1–7 of 7 Questions
  1. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. What are the particle size distributions? First capacity? First efficiency? Tap Density?

    1 answer
    1. The capacity, efficiency, and tap density of this material are not determined. The particle size distribution is also not determined; the particles are simply screened to be 20 microns or less.

      Helpful?

  4. what is the percentage of carbon?

    1 answer
    1. Unfortunately, the carbon content of this material has not been determined. However, this is synthetic graphite. The carbon content for synthetically produced material tends to be quite high.

  5. What is the purity of the product?

    1 answer
    1. Unfortunately, the purity of this product is not determined.

  6. Do you have any battery performance data for this material https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/SE/en/product/aldrich/282863#product-documentation

    1 answer
    1. This product is not tested for its battery performance. All data acquired can be seen on the lot-specific COA and product page. In this case, that includes the particle size and appearance.
