Biochem/physiol Actions

Cotrimoxazole is a combination antibiotic consisting of one part trimethoprim to five parts sulfamethoxazole that is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections both Gram-positive and Gram-negative. Sulfamethoxazole inhibits bacterial dihydropteroate synthase while trimethoprim inhibits bacterial dihydrofolate reductase, thereby blocking the synthesis of nucleic acids.
