General description

Mercury(II) iodide red (HgI2) is formed during iodometric analysis.[1]

Application

Mercury(II) iodide may be used in the preparation of mercury(II) acetate[2] and di­iodo­bis(1-methyl-1,3-imidazolium-2-thiol­ato-S)­mercury(II).[3]
