Application

Ethanol has been used in indirect immunofluorescence for washing the mouse tissues section and then mounted in elvanol for visualizing with a BX60 photomicroscope. It has also been used for thymocyte preparation.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Ethanol provides controlled pH, temperature and ionic strength for protein separation. It blocks the ion current induced by the glutamate receptor agonist N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) in hippocampal neurons.
