General description

Protein kinase C μ (PKCμ) belongs to the protein kinase C (PKC) family. PKCμ is widely expressed with the highest expression in the thymus, lung and peripheral blood mononuclear cells.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Protein kinase C μ (PKCμ) associates with phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase as well as phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate 5-kinase. A region of PKCμ between the amino-terminal transmembrane domain and the pleckstrin homology domain is shown to be involved in the association with the lipid kinases.

Physical form

Supplied in 50 mM Tris-HCl, pH 7.5, with 150 mM NaCl, 0.2 5mM DTT, 0.1 mM EGTA, 0.1 mM EDTA, 0.1 mM PMSF, and 25% glycerol.

Protein kinase Cmu (PKCmu), also named protein kinase D, is an unusual member of the PKC family that has a putative transmembrane domain and pleckstrin homology domain. This enzyme has a substrate specificity distinct from other PKC isoforms (Nishikawa, K.
